Product Description Important safety tips for parents and kids, including an up-to-date way for kids to think about "strangers." DVD running time is 42 minutes. Amazon.com Kid safety is an important, yet often difficult topic of discussion between parents and children. The Safe Side's "Safe Side Super-Chick" is a decidedly zany host who successfully combines slapstick humor with serious, practical safety tips for kids. "Safe Side Super-Chick" breaks the population down into three quickly discernable categories: "Safe Side Adults" that kids know well and can always trust to keep them safe, "Don't Knows" like the mail carrier or the lady at the park and "Sorta Knows" like a coach or a schoolmate's parent. As "Safe Side Super-Chick" interacts with "Don't Knows" and "Sorta Knows", she offers seven specific safety tips to keep kids safe and, with the help of real kids, details simple, concrete actions and phrases that empower kids in a variety of potentially dangerous situations. Best of all, the presentation is never scary, but always extremely funny--that means that kids ages 2 to 10 will actually enjoy learning about safety. Kudos to Julie Clark (creator of Baby Einstein) and John Walsh (host of America's Most Wanted) for creating a safety video that's highly entertaining, informative, and practical. --Tami Horiuchi

Safety information for kids August 23, 2010 Julie I like that my kids learn about strangers/safety in a fun way. Thank you
Just What We Were Looking For August 6, 2010 Daddybyday My wife and I were looking for a way to introduce safety and caution to our sometimes-too-friendly kidlets (ages 6, 4 and 3), and this video was a terrific part of that. The guidelines in the video are simple and well presented, the video is a bit quirky by fun, and my kids all enjoy watching it. In fact, they even requested it. Over and over. That's a good thing. It has definitely been a valuable part of our teaching our kidlets about keeping themselves safe around strangers.
Peace,
Tom
The Safe Side -- Internet Safety July 2, 2010 Noname "The Safe Side -- Internet Safety" is well done, easy for young children to understand. I watched the video with my 6 and 9 year olds. They don't play on the internet without my close supervision, but I want to be ready. It's difficult to ingrain in them the importance of not sharing too much information. I want them to know that just because someone asks, doesn't mean they have to answer. Just because it's on a form, doesn't mean they have to fill it out. This video explains the dangers without being graphic.
The issues discussed include email, pop-ups, revealing too much personal information, and meeting "friends" from the internet. Of that last point, my children got the message loud and clear. Good thing, it is the most important message of all.
A must have video for kid's safety June 26, 2010 Jennifer Fox (Arkansas) This video is awesome! It shares all the best info kids need to help keep them safe and does it in a kid friendly way without scaring them. (It's also really funny and they will laugh at the silliness while they are soaking in the important info.) It teaches them great terms such as "a don't know" - used instead of "stranger". Kids sometimes don't understand that strangers can be people who look nice and friendly, but they know exactly what it means to "not know someone". The terms and definitions don't leave any gray area in their mind. I think all kids should see this!
Be afraid all the time, everywhere. You're not safe!!! June 24, 2010 Shari H (California) This is a fun, engaging video. My 6 year old daughter watched it all the way through and then immediately asked to watch it again.
However, it's being shelved by me asap, because it goes way beyond common sense (don't go anywhere with a stranger) and just makes the world seem like a threatening, scary place when it's not.
Very rarely, bad things happen. And yes, kids must know never to go with a stranger and don't believe the "my kitten is lost," spiel! And in the very unlikely event someone tries to grab her or take her somewhere, she should yell, be rude and scream "This isn't my mom!" That's good stuff!
But, it really is OK to answer the front door. You're not going to be kidnapped by the UPS man. Especially if you're 10 years old and your dad is home. (That scene REALLY annoyed me! Not letting a 9 or 10 year old answer the door is just ridiculous!)
I want my daughter to have the confidence and knowledge to safely answer the door rather than just say, "NEVER! Door answering is SCARY!"
I'd rather my daughter know when and how to safely talk with adults she doesn't know if she needs to.
I don't want her to scream and run away when some random person at the park happens to say hello as they're walking past (but, OMG, is within 5 feet of her "personal space").
I want her to be safe (we ALL want that for our kids) but I truly believe that she will be *safest* by being confident, appropriately cautious (but not paranoid), able to use her common sense and exercise old-fashioned street smarts.
Too bad this video goes too far into paranoia-land. It has great potential and is lots of fun.
